Eric Dier will miss England’s Nations League game against Denmark on Wednesday with injury.

The Tottenham defender suffered mild hamstring discomfort during a 2-1 win against Belgium on Sunday.

The 26-year-old Dier has not been included in Gareth Southgate’s 23-man squad for the visit to Denmark at Wembley Stadium as England look to extend their undefeated campaign in Group A2.

Harry Winks, Michael Keane, Harvey Barnes and Tammy Abraham have also been excluded from the squad list published by UEFA.

Abraham was late to join the England team after footage of him surfaced at a party mocking the government’s ‘rule of six’ regulations alongside fellow England players Ben Chilwell and Jadon Sancho.

The injury prompted Chilwell’s retirement from the team on Tuesday, when Kieran Trippier also left camp to deal with a Football Association hearing for alleged betting violations.

Southgate: Kane is 100% fit

Southgate said on Tuesday England was “not risking players” after Sky Sports News reported on a possible club-country dispute between Tottenham and the national team over the availability of Harry Kane, who is suffering from muscle fatigue.

Spurs coach José Mourinho expressed concern about Kane’s workload ahead of this month’s international break, but Southgate insisted the forward has not suffered a specific injury and is on the line of play against Denmark.

“I had delayed muscle soreness, which can happen to athletes often, but there was no injury at any time,” Southgate said.

“Our problem with Harry before Sunday’s game was being able to perform at the highest level. Now, with the addition of a couple of days of training, it’s not even a problem.

“He’s been in top form since the end of last week, just before the last game. He would have started the last game but he hadn’t had enough training time.

“Obviously he was good during the game, so he’s fit and available.”

Southgate England in tournament mode

Southgate’s last three don’t bring much excitement and excitement, but they signal a return to the kind of risk-free football that wins international tournaments, writes Adam Bate of Sky Sports.
