The woman who died in a car accident near Oxford with three of her children was named Zoe Powell, 29.
Mrs Powell, blogger for Chinnor in Oxfordshire, died in the accident between a minivan and a heavy-duty vehicle Monday night, along with their daughters Amelia, four, and Phoebe, eight, and their six-year-old son, Simeon.
Her husband Josh, 30, and their 18-month-old daughter, who were also in the vehicle, are in critical condition at John Radcliffe Hospital in Oxford.
The driver of the other vehicle, a 56-year-old man, suffered minor injuries, according to Thames Valley police.
The Chinnor Parish Council said it was “shocked and saddened” by the deaths, while Oxford City Council Leader Susan Brown said: “Horrible, horrible news and my thoughts are not only with family and friends, but with all those professionals doing their jobs who have seen things that unfortunately they will never forget. “
Sgt Dominic Mahon, Senior Investigation Officer, Major Collision Investigation Unit, said the investigation of the “incredibly tragic” and “horrific” incident is in its early stages.
“The closest family members have been informed and are being supported by specially trained family liaison officers,” he said.
“The thoughts of all of us at Thames Valley Police, along with our partners who have assisted on the scene or at the hospital, are with families at this incredibly difficult time.”
Asking for help from the public, he said: “I would appeal to anyone who was driving in the area at the time of the collision and witnessed what happened, please contact 101, or make a report online, citing reference number 43200321914 “.
