Seven people have died after testing positive for coronavirus in Scotland in the past 24 hours, Nicola Sturgeon announced.
The new deaths recorded overnight mean that the death toll has risen to 2,550 since the start of the pandemic.
1,297 more people tested positive for the deadly virus overnight, bringing the total number of confirmed cases since March to 41,256.
A total of 527 people are currently being treated in hospital for the killer virus and 35 in intensive care.
Of the latter cases, 419 were in Greater Glasgow and Clyde, 337 in Lanarkshire, 191 in Lothian, and 95 in Ayrshire and Arran.
The Prime Minister announced the latest figures during her daily briefing on Covid-19 in Edinburgh.
The rising figures come as new information emerges on the state of UK finances due to the pandemic.
Taxes will have to increase by more than £ 40bn a year just to prevent government borrowing from spiraling out of control, warned a leading group of economic experts.
The Institute for Fiscal Studies (IFS) said that this year’s loans would already reach levels not seen outside of the two world wars due to the coronavirus pandemic.
As unemployment continues to rise, the IFS said the total unemployed could approach three million, which is the highest since the early 1990s.
The £ 40 billion would have to be found just to keep the national debt stagnant.
