Kylian Mbappé sent an honest message to Cristiano Ronaldo on social media after the France and Portugal clash in the Nations League.
The winner of the 2018 World Cup and the winners of the first Nations League met face to face at the Stade de France.
It promised to be a tasty event, however, it was the opposite.
Both teams appeared to cancel each other out, resulting in a 0-0 draw.
Neither country chose a weaker lineup, with France playing against players like Mbappé, Antoine Griezmann and Paul Pogba.
Portugal went with a front row that included Ronaldo, Joao Félix and Bernardo Silva, as well as Bruno Fernandes.
Of the two teams, perhaps the greatest pressure falls on the shoulders of Mbappé and Ronaldo.
The two are commonly regarded as some of the best players in the world.
The 21-year-old Mbappé is known as the best talent to come after helping France win the World Cup, as well as a host of trophies at Paris Saint-Germain.
While Ronaldo, at 35, is at the other end of his career, and he is incredible, claiming countless Champions League, Premier League, La Liga titles, as well as many cups.
And Mbappé had nothing but respect for the Juventus forward, and took to social networks to call him: “Idol”.
The post on Twitter garnered more than 250,000 likes, as well as 50,000 retweets.
The Frenchman has spoken of his adulation for Ronaldo in the past.
“He is a hero from my childhood and it was amazing meeting him when I visited Valdebebas,” he said.
“But I am a competitor and a person who is very competitive and all I want to do is win, win, win. So it really doesn’t matter who is in front of us, we want to win.”
“I admired him when I was younger, but that’s over. Now I’m going to the Bernabéu to play and win.”
“You can learn a lot from someone who has won five Ballon d’Or. He is a great player, but I have them here too.
“Neymar is here and I think he is very similar and is practically at the same level as Cristiano Ronaldo.”
