Bangor will enter lockdown this weekend, the Welsh Government announced.
Eight city districts (Garth, Hirael, Menai, Deiniol, Marchog, Glyder, Hendre, and Dewi) will have further Covid-19 restrictions starting at 18:00 BST on Saturday.
The restrictions will be similar to other counties in Wales.
Residents will not be allowed to leave or enter the areas without a reasonable excuse and may only gather outdoors.
The Pentir neighborhood, which includes parts of Penrhosgarnedd and is the site of Ysbyty Gwynedd, is not covered by the restrictions.
The Welsh government said Bangor had seen a significant cluster of cases and the incident rate is about 400 cases per 100,000 people.
He said the cases appear to be closely associated with youth and the student population.
Prime Minister Mark Drakeford said the cases were “primarily related to the socialization of people.”
He added that although much of Wales is currently under more local restrictions, “this is not a national lockdown.”
“This is a series of local restrictions to respond to increases in cases in individual areas,” he said.
“It is always difficult to make the decision to impose restrictions, but we hope that these measures will help control the spread of the virus.”
Gwynedd council leader Dyfrig Siencyn said: “Acting now will help curb the rapid rise in positive cases in the city, break the chain of transmission and protect Bangor residents as well as the general public of Gwynedd.” .
He said the council appreciates the impact the lockdown will have on individuals and businesses.
But hopefully taking these measures now will mean avoiding “more stringent and disruptive measures in the future.”
He added that there was no room for complacency from Gwynedd residents, even though the current blockade only affects Bangor.
