Donald Trump says he will “probably” hold a rally in Florida after he is authorized to resume public engagements starting tomorrow.
His doctor, Dr. Sean Conley, says the president has completed his treatment for the coronavirus and has responded well.
In a statement released by White House Press Secretary Kayleigh McEnany on Thursday, Dr. Conley said: “Since he returned home, his physical examination has been stable with no indications suggesting disease progression. Overall, it has responded extremely well to treatment, with no evidence on examining adverse therapeutic effects.
“Saturday will be the 10th since Thursday’s diagnosis, and based on the track record of advanced diagnostics the team has been conducting, I fully anticipate the president’s safe return to public engagements at that time.”
In an interview with Fox News shortly thereafter, the president said he was feeling “great” and was looking forward to campaigning again.
“I think I’m going to try to do a rally on Saturday night, if we have enough time to put it together, but we want to do a rally … probably in Florida on Saturday night, I could go back and do one in Pennsylvania the next night.” Trump said.
He also said another test for the virus would likely be done on Friday.
Trump and First Lady Melania were diagnosed with coronavirus on October 2 after one of the president’s closest aides, Hope Hicks, tested positive.
The president spent a few days at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center in Bethesda, Maryland, where he was detained as a precaution.
Earlier, Trump said he would refuse to participate in a virtual debate on October 15 that the organizers were planning in response to their coronavirus diagnosis.
Their campaign manager, Bill Stepien, suggested that face-to-face discussions should take place on October 22-29.
The president had said that he was not prepared to “waste time” in a virtual debate.
Stepien said a virtual debate would only serve Joe Biden, who “would rely on his teleprompter from his basement bunker.”
The Biden campaign said that Trump “is not on the debate calendar” and that his “erratic behavior does not allow him to rewrite the calendar and choose new dates of his choice.”
Suggesting that Biden would go ahead with the debate anyway, the statement added: “We look forward to participating in the final debate, scheduled for October 22, which is already tied for the last debate date in 40 years. Donald Trump may appear. , or you can reject it again. That is your choice. “
