The number of new daily coronavirus cases has risen by 17,540 in a big jump, with deaths increasing by 77.

It comes after the nation’s coronavirus hospital death toll has tragically risen to 58, as lockdown restrictions could tighten further in the north.

In England there have been 51 deaths from coronavirus in hospital, in Scotland there have been five more deaths and in both Wales and Northern Ireland there has been one more death.

Last Thursday, October 1, the number of Covid-19 patients who died in UK hospitals increased by 55.

This was an increase from the previous Thursday, September 24, when 33 more hospital deaths were recorded.

On other recent Thursdays, the death toll in hospitals rose to 21 on September 17 and nine deaths on September 10.

The toll increased by 17 on September 3, nine on August 27, five on August 20 (the lowest since the blockade was imposed in March) and 13 on August 13.

Yesterday, the number of coronavirus patients who died in UK hospitals increased by 59, health authorities announced.

The total number of patients who died with coronavirus in all settings increased by 70 yesterday.

Newcastle is now one of England’s worst coronavirus hot spots

Leaked government documents revealed that a new three-tier restriction system will be announced on Monday before the measures go into effect on Wednesday.

Ministers are also reportedly considering new financial packages to help areas and industries hardest hit by the lockdowns amid widespread calls for support.

But with infection rates rising in cities like Manchester, Liverpool and Newcastle, regional leaders criticized the government for not consulting them before the changes.

Nicola Sturgeon said 20% of Scotland’s cases can be traced back to hospitality when yesterday he tightened restrictions on the struggling industry.

Public Health England weekly monitoring data does not show a clear picture of cases caused in hospitality, as it divides them into different settings depending on who is infected: employee or customer.
