The United Kingdom has registered 17,540 new cases of coronavirus in the last 24 hours, 3,300 more than yesterday.
A total of 77 deaths have been recorded within 28 days of a positive test, an increase from the 70 deaths reported on Wednesday.
The latest figures follow several days of confusion, as around 16,000 cases in England. they were omitted from the NHS Test and Trace scheme.

Coronavirus patients in hospitals in England also rose to 3,044 compared to 2,944 yesterday, the highest since June 22.
A week ago, on October 1, there were 1,995 hospital admissions, according to government data.
Public Health England (PHE) has raised concerns about the increase in hospital admissions.
Dr. Yvonne Doyle, PHE Medical Director, said: “We are seeing a definite and sustained increase in cases and hospital admissions.
“The trend is clear and it is very worrying.”
There have now been 58,000 deaths recorded in the UK where COVID-19 was mentioned on the death certificate, according to separate figures released by UK statistical agencies.
It comes as Health Secretary Matt Hancock said the UK has reached a “dangerous time” in the coronavirus pandemic.
Speaking at the annual NHS provider conference on Thursday, Health Secretary Matt Hancock said: “We are at a dangerous time in the course of this pandemic.
“I am very concerned about the increase in the number of cases, especially in the North West and North East of England, parts of Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland and parts of Yorkshire.”
It comes at a time when pubs and restaurants in coronavirus hot spots will face new restrictions after Downing Street said new data suggests “significant” transmission in hospitality settings.
England is expected to become three different lock levels next week, with millions of people facing tighter restrictions, particularly in the north of England, as the government tries to control the increase in coronavirus cases and hospital admissions.
Prime Minister Boris Johnson’s official spokesman said: “We are seeing coronavirus cases increase across the country, but they are increasing faster in the Northeast and Northwest.
“We are reviewing the data closely and are considering a variety of options to reduce the spread of the virus in order to protect communities and protect the NHS.”
