Tributes to the young cyclist killed in a hit-and-run accident as support sent to a heartbroken family

The tributes have inundated a young cyclist who died in a hit and run while sending messages of support to her family.

Jennie Dowd fell off her bike on Sunday September 27 on Lunt Road in Sefton Village.

The 31-year-old was rushed to hospital with serious injuries and was later said to be fighting for her life.

Just over a week later, on Tuesday morning, Merseyside police confirmed that Crosby’s wife had died of her injuries.

Since then, heartbreaking messages and tributes have been posted on social media as support was sent to his grieving family.

ECHO reader Shirley Atherton said: “Thoughts and prayers for your family.

“How sad Jennie rips.”

Jade Jones also said: “Heartbreaking … RIP Jennie x”

Dozens of others shared their condolences with Jennie’s loved ones.

Katrina Shaw said, “Rest in peace Jen. Sending love to your family.”

Shortly after the accident, a 23-year-old woman was arrested in connection with the accident and for leaving the scene.

She has been released under investigation.

In a statement, a Merseyside police spokesman said: “We can confirm that following a traffic collision in Sefton Village in September, Jennie Dowd, 31, of Crosby, sadly passed away in hospital.

“Jennie was found seriously injured near The Punchbowl on Lunt Road on the morning of Sunday, September 27, following a collision between her pedal bike and a car.

“His family is being supported by officers as the investigation of the incident continues.

“A 23-year-old Sefton woman remains under investigation after being arrested on the day of the incident.”
