1,054 new cases of coronavirus have been announced in Scotland in the last 24 hours; this is a huge increase in daily numbers.
Unfortunately, one death has been recorded in the last 24 hours.
Currently, 319 people are being treated in the hospital and 28 in intensive care.
410 new cases were reported in NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde, 195 in Lanarkshire and 190 in Lothian.
The alarming trend shows that transmission of the virus is on the rise, with hundreds of new cases being reported every day.
The news comes as the Prime Minister was preparing to announce new “circuit breaker” blocking measures that she is imposing across the country.
She will give a statement in Parliament at 2.50 pm this afternoon.
This could lead to non-essential shops and hospitality businesses being temporarily closed and travel restrictions re-imposed for the public.
There are fears that pubs and restaurants could face temporary closures under “breaker” closure plans for some parts of the country.
The SNP leader has emphasized that she does not want to impose a second national closure and that schools will remain open and there will be no travel restrictions throughout Scotland.
But with the virus still spreading despite a national ban on visiting other homes, there is concern that the covid will be spread at social gatherings in pubs and restaurants.
