A loving farewell
Aston Villa fans have been reacting to the departure of goalkeeper Orjan Nyland.
Nyland’s contract was terminated last night and the Norwegian left after two years with Dean Smith’s team.
The 30-year-old, signed from Ingoldstadt in 2018, had fallen through the hierarchical order at Villa Park following the arrival of Arsenal’s Emiliano Martínez and Jed Steer’s return to fitness.
Nyland became the second player to see his contract with Villa interrupted, and Jota left on Saturday.
Nyland was Villa’s first choice after the block, as the number one jersey alternated between him and Pepe Reina.
Former Molde goalkeeper Nyland lost his place to Reina after a series of error-filled games that began with a failed save that goal-line technology failed to achieve against Sheffield United.
However, recent performances against Leicester City in the Carabao Cup were a highlight of his time at Villa.
“Good luck, I will never forget the amazing save you made to keep us in the Premier League,” said one fan.

It has been a great transfer window for Aston Villa.
After biding his time, Matty Cash got the ball rolling with his move from Nottingham Forest. Then came Ollie Watkins, Emi Martinez and Bertrand Traore.
Chelsea’s Ross Barkley loan deal only added to Dean Smith’s delight when Villa lost steam.

Villa’s high-flying young Europeans
Aston Villa’s brilliant transfer window has been heralded as one of the best in the Premier League, but the club has added exciting additions to its academy.
Academy supreme Mark Harrison has been busy all summer organizing deals to improve Villa’s under-18s with the help of athletic director Johan Lange.
In total, Villa has hired seven new teens, five of whom come from all over Europe. The club has made great strides in recent weeks and was crowned by the capture of talented forward Ruben Shakpoke.
“He has joined us after a lot of hard work during our recruiting process and I thank everyone for their efforts,” Harrison said after reaching a deal with Norwich for the 16-year-old England youth international. “We are looking forward to working with Ruben and developing his talent.”
Harrison, meanwhile, also recognized the work and continued support of Villa’s owners, Nassef Sawiris and Wes Edens, who, according to Christian Purslow, take a great interest in setting up Villa’s academy. Aston Villa and West Bromwich Albion reportedly entered a ‘tug of war’ for AFC Bournemouth forward Josh King.
According to the Mirror , interest in him is starting to wane with Premier League rivals Leicester City, Everton and Tottenham Hotspur, all credited with an interest in the Norwegian international.
