The number of people admitted to hospital with coronavirus in one day increased by a quarter in England.
478 people were admitted to the hospital on Sunday, the highest daily number since early June, up from 386.
More than two-thirds of them (334) were in the North West, North East and Yorkshire.
In total, almost 2,800 patients are hospitalized with Covid in England, compared to more than 17,000 at the peak of the epidemic.
In Scotland, 262 people confirmed with Covid-19 are hospitalized, an increase of 44.
In Wales, 92 admissions were recorded on the government’s coronavirus dashboard, but that number includes people suspected of having coronavirus, as well as those who tested positive. There were no admissions in Northern Ireland.

- Nottingham: ban on mixing ‘probably’ after Covid spike
It comes as 14,542 more cases were confirmed across the UK on Tuesday.
That daily figure has tripled in fifteen days.
Another 76 people have died within 28 days of testing positive, the government said.
As always, we must be careful not to read too much at the turn of a day.
But of all the Covid measurements, hospital admissions are perhaps the most reliable and had been increasing quite gradually before Sunday’s jump.
Unfortunately, we should expect the cases to continue to increase.
This is the time of year when emergency admissions for respiratory illnesses increase.
In a normal year, we can expect 1,000 admissions a day for influenza and respiratory viruses by December.
What we don’t know is to what extent normal illnesses add to this Covid total.
These new admissions mean that around 3% of hospital beds are now occupied by Covid patients.
There are reports that hospitals, especially in the north of England, are very busy.
But in other places the beds are free. The reduction in other services, from cancer care to routine operations, means that bed occupancy levels are about a quarter lower than normal.
However, unions would point out that staff shortages mean that doctors and nurses are not always available to care for patients.
The latest government figures released on Tuesday show a total of 2,783 Covid-19 patients spent Monday night in England’s hospitals, the highest daily total since June 25.
There were also 349 patients on mechanical ventilation beds.
And the latest hospital admissions figures released, for Sunday, show there were 478 new patients admitted, the highest daily number since June 3.
Additional restrictions have been introduced in many areas of the UK, including throughout Scotland and Northern Ireland.
In addition to these national measures, parts of Wales, Scotland, Northern Ireland and areas of the Midlands, Lancashire, Merseyside, West Yorkshire and North East England have seen additional rules imposed.
