Thomas Partey signs for Arsenal from Atlético de Madrid

Arsenal have confirmed the signing of Thomas Partey from Atlético de Madrid, after activating the release clause for the transfer of 45 million pounds of the player.

The Gunners reportedly had several offers for the central midfielder rejected over the summer, and Atleti resisted the release clause fee.

Reports are conflicting whether he’s signing a four-year or five-year deal, with The Guardian reporting he’ll be at £ 250,000 a week at Arsenal.

The release clause meant that the buying club did not need to negotiate with the selling club and instead triggered the deal by telling La Liga that they were activating the release clause, in the same way that PSG bought Neymar and Manchester City bought. Rodri.

The Ghana international moved to the Spanish capital eight years ago and has played 188 games for Atleti since then.

He played on loan in Mallorca the season in which Diego Simeone’s team won the La Liga title, but won the Europa League and the UEFA Super Cup in Madrid, as well as being runner-up in the Champions League.

Arsenal also lost another central midfielder from their team on the day of the deadline and Matteo Guendouzi left to join Hertha Berlin for the season.

This weekend, however, the French team confirmed that the 22-year-old would be staying with them this season, meaning Arteta had to look elsewhere.

Chelsea midfielder Jorginho was another linked to a move in London, but a move for the Italian never materialized.

The manager has joined Gabriel, Runar Alex Runarsson and Willian this summer, while Pablo Mari and Cedric Soares have joined permanently, having previously been on loan at the club.

Arteta has turned Arsenal’s fortunes around since he replaced Unai Emery in December last year and led the club to success in the FA Cup and Community Shield.

The team are off to a good start to the season with three wins and just one league loss, against champion Liverpool, and knocked out the Reds from the Carabao Cup en route to the December quarter-finals.
