Manchester United worked tirelessly on the day of the transfer deadline and managed to complete FIVE giant transfers before the 11pm deadline.
Alex Telles, left back, was the first to go through the door, entering from Porto after a saga of transfers that has lasted months and months.
A fee of £ 13.5 million, plus £ 1.8 million in possible add-ons, is understood to have been agreed with Porto last weekend for Telles, whose four-year deal includes the option to extend it for another year.
The Brazilian international said when signing: “Joining a club with the prestige of Manchester United is a great honor.
“You have to work hard to get to this point in your career and now that I come to this club, I can promise you that I will give everything in my heart to be successful here.”
Telles’ signing was expected to be quickly followed by Edinson Cavani’s announcement that he would be joining United on a free transfer, but the Red Devils confirmed two different arrivals between those major deals.
First, United announced the signing of teenage center back Willy Kambwala from Sochaux, and the 16-year-old, who has captained the French under-17 team, joined for around £ 3.6 million.
Shortly after that agreement, the Red Devils confirmed that they had agreed to the future transfer of Amad Diallo Traore from Atalanta.
The 18-year-old Ivorian will join the Premier League club in January subject to medical and personal conditions and a work permit.
A statement read: “Manchester United have reached an agreement with Atalanta for the future transfer of Amad Diallo, one of the most exciting young prospects in Italian football,” the club said on its website.
Then came the big one, as United finally announced the signing of Uruguayan legend Cavani on a free transfer following his departure from Paris Saint-Germain earlier this summer.
He said: “Manchester United are one of the best clubs in the world, so it is a real honor to be here. I have worked very hard during my free time and I am looking forward to competing and representing this amazing club.
“I have played in front of some of the most passionate football fans in my career and I know it will be the same in Manchester. I can’t wait to experience the atmosphere of Old Trafford, when the fans are sure to return.
“I hope to continue writing my little story within the football book and I know that is why my approach has to remain the same as always: work, work, work. I have had a conversation with the manager and this has increased my desire to wear this beautiful shirt ”.
And then shortly after the 11pm deadline, United confirmed that they had beaten the clock to bring in highly-rated Uruguayan winger Facundo Pellistri for a fee of £ 10 million.
Pellistri has signed a five-year contract with the Red Devils and leaves Peñarol in his homeland to head to Old Trafford.
Coach Ole Gunnar Solskjaer said: “Our scouts have followed Facundo for a long time and we believe he will be a real talent in the long term.
“While we understand that it will take time for him to adjust to the English game, he is capable of making an impact with his pace and ability to beat his opponent.
“Facundo has the perfect platform at Manchester United to develop and has all the technical qualities and the right mindset to become a top player here.
“We all look forward to working with him to develop his potential in the years to come.”
