Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta couldn’t hide his excitement after the striker finally completed a £ 45m deal for Atlético de Madrid midfielder Thomas Partey.

The 27-year-old signed a long-term contract with the Gunners in the last hour before the transfer window closed after a chaotic deadline.

Arsenal had wanted to sign Partey in the window before, but the club wanted to get rid of something dead at the Emirates before activating Ghana’s £ 45m release clause.

The Gunners finally felt in his place to do that on the day of the deadline and Arteta praised Partey after the midfielder finally got his transfer to the club.

“We have been watching Thomas for a while, so now we are delighted to add such a high quality player to our team,” said Arteta.

‘He is a dynamic midfielder with a lot of energy. He brings a lot of experience from a top-tier club that has competed at the highest level in La Liga and the Champions League for several years.

“We are very impressed with his attitude and his approach to the game. He is a smart footballer and we hope that he will integrate into our system and contribute to the progress we are making at the moment at the club. ”

Partey is Arsenal’s biggest signing of the summer, congratulating his newcomers Willian and Gabriel.

The Ghanaian is ready to wear the number 18 jersey at the Emirates, which was last worn by Nacho Monreal before his departure in 2019.

Partey now has the opportunity to establish himself in North London and could make his debut against Leicester City in fifteen days.
