Arsenal have complied with Atlético de Madrid’s £ 45m release clause for Thomas Partey as they seek to secure a deadline deal for the midfielder.
Partey has been linked with Arsenal throughout the window and although his £ 45m release clause has been a problem.
The Gunners have been trying to free up pay and team space before the window closes at 11pm, with Matteo Guendouzi first out the door on the deadline, joining Hertha Berlin on loan.
Lucas Torreira is ready to sign on loan from Atlético de Madrid, Bayer Leverkusen’s move for Sead Kolasinac failed at the 11th hour and the Gunners are listening to offers for Sokratis Papastathopoulos. They have not received any offers for Mesut Ozil, despite the fact that Mikel Arteta questions his future.
Arteta said at the weekend that Arsenal were doing their best to finalize transfers before the deadline, and was confident that deals can be made, while Sky Sports News Reporter Dharmesh Sheth has confirmed that a Deadline Day move is being planned.
“Look, throughout this transfer window we know that Arsenal have been after a midfielder,” he said Monday. “The one who never left was Thomas Partey.
“We know that Arsenal has been interested in him throughout the window, the problem was the termination clause, since Atlético will not negotiate with any club about the termination clause, so if someone wants to sign him they must pay 45 million euros. pounds.
“Now, we understand that Arsenal are pushing once again for Thomas Partey. There is an expectation, not 100 per cent, but there is an expectation that they will comply with the £ 45 million release clause.
“All the talk during the window was how they generate that money. Well today, they’re looking to get rid of the players to fund that move for Partey.
“Torriera [to Atletico] it is just a loan. They would get some kind of loan fee for that, but more importantly, they get their salary from the bill. Guendouzi is the same.
“The other is Kolasinac. Leverkusen want to buy it and Arsenal want to sell it. We think it’s around £ 10 million. Leverkusen can’t pay that fee out of salary, so they’re looking for a loan with the obligation of … option. shopping.
“All this together, plus the sale of Emiliano Martínez, it seems that Arsenal is raising these funds, and we hope they will comply with the 45 million pound release clause from Partey.
“Time is running out, 11pm is the deadline, they are looking to fix it so that Partey can become an Arsenal player.”
The Gunners were already interested in Chelsea midfielder Jorginho. A deal for the Italian international is believed to be unlikely, but not impossible.
Houssem Aouar, meanwhile, is no longer believed to be a target after he declared his desire to stay with Lyon. “I want to continue the adventure with the club that raised me,” said Aouar Telefoot weekend.
Merse: I almost fell out of my chair for Partey!
Sky Sports Expert Paul Merson Analysis …
“I think Thomas Partey is a great player,” Merson said. “I almost fell out of my chair with 45 million pounds, I don’t think it’s a lot of money for the quality of the player.”
“One thing he also brings is discipline. Atlético de Madrid is probably one of the most disciplined teams in Europe and he will do it. He is not a midfielder who runs all over the place, he is very disciplined and plays in a disciplined team and I think that will be a great signing.
“I think what Mikel Arteta is doing, he is trying to get rid of the players who are not involved, he doesn’t want them hanging around and he wants them out. Fair play, I like what Arsenal are doing.
“The likes of Lucas Torreira, Matteo Guendouzi and Sead Kolasinac are not playing at the moment and he doesn’t want them at the club. I like that kind of business. You look at Manchester United and the likes of Phil Jones are still there.” there, but they’re not going to play, so what are they doing there yet, do they want to play soccer?
“Fair play for the Arsenal guys, they want to play football, so they want to go, they are not digging in. It’s a short career, he plays football.”
Guendouzi joins Hetha Berlin on loan
Guendouzi, 21, hasn’t played a single minute for Arsenal this season and has now joined Hertha, who finished 10th in the Bundesliga last season.
The France Under-21 international last played for Arteta’s team in the Premier League in June, during a 2-1 loss to Brighton on June 20.
He was involved in a fight with forward Neal Maupay, who appeared to grab his opponent’s throat after the final whistle at Amex Stadium.
Reports in France earlier this summer claimed that Guendouzi said he would be willing to leave Arsenal during a disciplinary meeting at the club, following the incident in Brighton, but Arteta later dismissed the speculation.
Guendouzi, who joined the Lorient Gunners in 2018, is under contract at Emirates Stadium until 2022.
The midfielder has played 82 times for the club in all competitions, scoring once and giving five assists since his debut in August 2018.
