Donald Trump appears to be returning to the campaign, albeit virtually, by sending a series of tweets from the hospital where he is being treated for COVID-19.
The president was admitted to Walter Reed Medical Center in Maryland on Friday night, after running a fever and receiving supplemental oxygen at the White House after his positive test for coronavirus the night before.
While hospital staff say Trump’s condition is improving, his Twitter habits are one of the strongest signs so far that he appears to be on the mend, after posting a series of messages Monday morning.

The 74-year-old Trump has been encouraging people to vote for him while listing the things he has accomplished, wants to accomplish, or simply where he stands on certain issues, by posting 18 tweets in less than an hour.
He sent his first message at 6.19 a.m. M. (11.19 AM UK Time), stating that the US stock market is “preparing to break its all-time high.”
He also claimed that Democrats would raise taxes and “shut down our economy and our jobs.”
Trump then went on to talk again about “stock market highs” as well as “law and order”, “religious freedom” and “space force”, all followed by an instruction to “vote”! and all in capital letters.
He also tweeted about other topics, such as health care, abortion, regulation cuts, gun rights and what he calls the “fake news media.”
It came as White House press secretary Kayleigh McEnany revealed that she had tested positive for coronavirus and was isolating herself.
On Sunday, Donald Trump briefly left the hospital so he could greet the crowd waiting outside.
He sat in an armored van, wore a mask, and greeted people as they drove him down the highway to cheering and waving flags.
Dr. James Phillips, chief of disaster medicine at George Washington University and treating physician at Walter Reed Medical Center, described the drive-by as “madness”.
He wrote on Twitter: “Every person in the vehicle during that completely unnecessary presidential ‘step’ now has to be quarantined for 14 days.
“They can get sick. They can die. For the political theater. Ordered by Trump to risk their lives for the theater. This is insane.”
White House spokesman Judd Deere said the vehicle “was cleared by the medical team as insurance” and precautions were taken.
Many of the president’s physical campaign events in the lead up to next month’s election have been moved online or postponed, leaving him dependent on his digital audience.
Vice President Mike Pence will take over some of the biggest events in Trump’s absence this week.
Voter registration for the Nov. 3 election ends today in several states, including swing states like Florida and Arizona, generating momentum for citizens to register and be ready to vote.
Trump could be fired from the hospital today, after doctors told reporters that the president continues to improve.
