Arsenal have made a dramatic late move to comply with the buyout clause of Thomas Partey of Atlético de Madrid, who could now join a £ 45m deal before the transfer window closes.
Partey has been wanted by Arsenal for several years and was, together with Lyon’s Houssem Aouar, Mikel Arteta’s main target. The club has been struggling to insure any of the players, with funds at a premium, but it is understood that they have expressed their intention to pay the Partey fee and, if all goes according to plan, a medical examination could be performed in Madrid on Monday night.
If the other hurdles are crossed, The Guardian understands that personal terms would be a formality. Partey would sign a four-year deal worth around £ 250,000 a week and a seven-figure signing fee. His release clause is worth 45 million pounds and, upon meeting him, Arsenal would keep their man.
One of Arsenal’s midfielders, Matteo Guendouzi, has signed for Hertha Berlin on loan for one season. Guendouzi has been in disgrace since June and Arteta, exasperated by various player problems, has wanted to move on. It is understood that Hertha paid a loan fee for Guendouzi, but there is no obligation to buy.
