Alisson: Liverpool goalkeeper faces up to six weeks on the sidelines | Football news

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp says goalkeeper Alisson will be out for four to six weeks due to a shoulder injury.

Klopp’s starting goalkeeper had to stay out of Sunday night’s shocking 7-2 Premier League defeat at Aston Villa.

The Reds coach said after the game there was no chance Alisson would be fit in time to face Everton in the Merseyside derby on October 17, which is Liverpool’s first game after the international break.

Brazilian international Alisson has been a key figure for Liverpool since arriving from Roma in the summer of 2018.

When asked when the 28-year-old could return, Klopp said: “There is no possibility of playing Everton.

“Let me tell you, it could have been worse with that injury, that’s for sure.

“I don’t want to put a deadline on it, but four weeks might be possible, six weeks is maybe more likely, but I don’t know.

“We have to evaluate this.”

In the absence of Alisson, Liverpool conceded seven goals in a match for the first time since 1963.

Substitute goalkeeper Adrian was to blame for Villa’s first game, but Klopp has backed him to show that he is a capable substitute for Alisson, as he did last season.

Klopp said: “People will go for Adrian and things like that.

“Yes, the first goal was not good, but other than that I don’t think it had much to do with all the other goals.

“We are not helping him tonight.

“He is a very good goalkeeper who played 11 games with us last year and I think we won almost all of them.

“Tonight our doorman was not the problem.”
