DETECTIVES investigating the murders of a mother and her daughter have made two arrests.

The men, ages 51 and 56 and both from Burnley, were taken into custody shortly after 7 p.m. Sunday.

Both were arrested on suspicion of two counts of murder, two counts of rape and one count of arson with the intent to endanger life. They remain in police custody.

It comes after detectives asked for information following the discovery of two bodies in a home in Reedley.

Officers were initially called in around 8:45 a.m. Thursday (October 1) for a report of concern for the safety of the occupants of an address on Colne Road.

When they arrived, the bodies of two women were found, as well as evidence of smoke and fire damage inside the address.

Since then, one of the victims has been formally identified as 49-year-old Dr. Saman Mir Sacharvi. The girl’s body has not yet been formally identified, but it is believed to be Dr. Sacharvi’s daughter, Vian Mangrio, 14, who was a student at Marsden Heights School in Nelson. The two lived together at the address.

An Interior Ministry autopsy yesterday (Saturday) revealed that Dr. Sacharvi died as a result of pressure on his neck. She had also suffered an assault.

Although the post-mortem investigation is ongoing for Ms. Mangrio, it can be confirmed that she was found badly burned within the address.

The closest relatives of Dr. Sacharvi and Ms. Mangrio are supported by specially trained offices.

Detective Superintendent Jon Holmes, Lancashire Police Chief of Felony, said: “We are on a number of lines of investigation and we have made two arrests tonight.

“However, this is a live investigation and we continue to ask anyone with information to contact us. Perhaps you’ve been to the Colne Road area recently and seen something suspicious. Maybe you have CCTV footage or dash cam that might contain something useful. Or maybe you think you know who is responsible. Regardless of what information you have, we recommend that you get in touch, even if you think what you know is insignificant.

“Finally our thoughts remain with Dr. Sacharvi and Ms. Mangrio’s family and friends at this terrible time and we send them our deepest condolences. We have a team of detectives dedicated to the investigation and we will leave no stone unturned. ”
