27-year-old woman dies and two people fight for their lives after car crashes into tree

A 27-year-old woman died and two people are fighting for their lives after a car crashed into a tree on the A194 in Washington on Saturday.

The collision of a vehicle occurred around 10:30 p.m. on Saturday between the access roads A195 and A182.

It is understood that a silver Audi S3 was traveling west when, for reasons yet to be determined, it ran off the road and hit a tree.

The emergency services went to the place where a passenger, 27, was found dead inside the car

Three other occupants of the car were injured in the collision and were taken to the Royal Victoria Infirmary in Newcastle.

The 35-year-old male driver suffered serious but non-fatal injuries.

A 33-year-old man and a 26-year-old woman are in critical condition.

The families have been notified and are receiving support from specialist officers.

The westbound A194 was closed for more than five hours to allow accident scene investigators to assess the area and carry out a clean-up operation.

An investigation has been launched into the circumstances surrounding the collision, and police are now asking that anyone with information be contacted.

Sgt. Pinner Rana, Northumbria Police Department of Motor Patrol, said: “This is a devastating incident that has unfortunately resulted in the death of one woman and seriously injured three other people.

“We continue to support families through this difficult time as we work tirelessly to establish what happened.

“Our investigations are ongoing into the circumstances surrounding this collision, and we are now asking anyone who was in the area at the time who saw something to help us get in touch.

“Please review the dash cam images and let us know if you saw a silver Audi A3 at the time on the A194. Even if you did not witness the collision, we would like to see the moments leading up to the collision to help us determine what it happened. “
