Bordesley was the Birmingham neighborhood with the most positive Covid-19 tests, the latest data shows.
There were 43 confirmed cases of coronavirus in the neighborhood in the seven days through Sept. 28, which is the most recent period on record.
It was just ahead of Greet & Sparkhill South, which had 42 positive tests.
The data is revealed on maps created by Public Health England, which are updated daily.
Below are all of the Birmingham neighborhoods with more than 20 cases throughout the week:
- Bordesley 43
- Say Hello and Sparkhill South 42
- Saltley East 30
- Handsworth Wood 28
- Small Heath Park 26
- Winson Green and Gib Heath 26
- Bordesley Green North 23
- Belchers Lane and Eastfield Road 22
- Edgbaston South and University 22
- Hodge Hill 21
Sparkhill has been the hotspot in Birmingham in recent weeks.
However, cases have seen a slight decline in the past week.
The West Midlands Covid-19 weekly briefing heard that Birmingham’s infection rate had dropped to 139 people per 100,000 of the population on Friday, up from 146 on Tuesday.
Clive Wright, West Midlands regional coordinator for the Department of Health, released the latest data.
The infection rate for Tuesday is shown in parentheses below, while the second figure is for today.
- Birmingham (146.3) 139.2
- Coventry (66.3) 71.2
- Dudley (45.2) 52.5
- Sandwell (113.3) 107.5
- Solihull (75.8) 79.6
- Walsall (78.7) 72.7
- Wolverhampton (76.3) 74.8
Wright, a regional coordinator for the Department of Health, said he thought it was “unlikely” that it would be anytime soon, while Birmingham and Sandwell in particular see rates of more than 100 cases per 100,000 people.
Council leader Cllr Ian Ward said the data does not support further restrictions in the hospitality sector, and we believe we are “in the right place” to have home mixing restrictions for now.
His main request was that Health Secretary Matt Hancock continue to speak to local leaders, follow the science and not make unexpected announcements, as was the case earlier this week in the Northeast.
