Democratic nominee Joe Biden tested negative for the coronavirus on Friday after President Donald Trump and first lady Melania Trump tested positive.
Biden stood on the stage of the debate in front of Trump Tuesday night, but the two candidates never shook hands.
Biden’s campaign sent a statement from the candidate’s doctor confirming that both Biden and his wife Jill were tested for COVID-19 and that the virus was “not detected.”
“I am reporting this in my capacity as Vice President Biden and Dr. Biden’s Primary Care Physician,” said Dr. Kevin O’Connor.
Biden also sent a tweet announcing that he and Jill tested negative.
‘I am pleased to report that Jill and I have tested negative for COVID. Thank you all for your messages of concern. I hope this serves as a reminder: wear a mask, maintain social distance, and wash your hands, ” Biden wrote.

Early Friday, Biden sent good wishes to the first family.

Biden is expected to travel to Grand Rapids, Michigan, on Friday.
Biden’s campaign has been meticulous about the candidate and the people around him wearing masks and social distancing.
But the Democratic presidential candidate was on stage for 90 minutes without a mask with President Trump on Tuesday night. The two men were socially estranged, but it’s unclear if they had any backstage interactions.
The campaign was testing everyone who attended Tuesday’s debate after the president’s diagnosis, Politico reported Friday.
Trump’s adviser, Hope Hicks, tested positive Wednesday, but flew Air Force One with the president to Cleveland for debate and sees him daily. It is not known when it was infected.
The Biden campaign already asked a reporter, who was scheduled to travel with them, but informed officials who had traveled with Trump to Minnesota on Wednesday, not to go.
All those attending the Cleveland debate were screened beforehand, while the former vice president’s wife, Jill Biden, kept her mask on at all times, unlike some members of the Trump family. Melania Trump also wore a mask at all times, but removed her mask when she took the stage at the end of the showdown.
Biden, 77, is in the same high-risk category as Trump because of age.
His running mate, California Sen. Kamala Harris, tested negative for the coronavirus on Thursday, according to Reuters.
He also tweeted Friday wishing the president and his family the best.
Doug and I join Joe Biden and Dr. Biden in wishing President Trump and the First Lady a speedy and full recovery. We keep them and the entire Trump family in our thoughts, ” Harris wrote.
During the debate, Trump mocked Biden for his mask.
Joe Biden’s running mate, Sen. Kamala Harris, also tweeted good wishes to the president and the first lady on Friday morning.
I don’t wear masks like him. I don’t think I’ve ever seen him without a mask. He could be talking 200 feet away from someone and he’s showing up with the largest mask I’ve ever seen, ” he said.
The president also said of their crowded meetings: “So far we have not had any problems.”
“If you could draw the crowd, you would do the same,” Trump told Biden.
The 31-year-old Hicks is said to have felt bad for the first time returning from a rally in Minnesota on the president’s plane Wednesday night.
She was quarantined away from other people on the plane and her diagnosis was confirmed Thursday, according to a report.
Trump canceled his plans on Friday to hold a rally in Florida following his diagnosis.
Biden was seen in public Thursday when he recorded his Al Smith dinner speech.
He was wearing a mask.
The former vice president has criticized the Trump administration’s response to the pandemic.
