Scottish driver from ‘Eejit’ filmed reversing oncoming traffic on busy highway to avoid traffic jams

A crazed driver was filmed reversing into oncoming traffic on a busy Scottish road after a serious accident this morning.

Junction 4a Harthill and Junction 5 Shotts of the M8 have closed in both directions since an accident around 4am on Friday.

The collision has caused significant delays for drivers, with one driver clearly determined not to get stuck in the rear.

The silver Fiat Punto reversed on the busy road

Derek Speirs of Kirkintilloch couldn’t believe his eyes when he saw the silver Fiat Punto reversing into traffic on the busy A73 at the M8 Airdrie junction around 9.20am. M. From today.

Landscaper Derek has been stuck on the road for over three hours since 7.30am. M.

The 40-year-old added: “I couldn’t believe it when I realized what the person was actually doing.

“He was obviously trying to get onto the M8, but he quickly realized how busy it was, so instead of waiting on it, he stopped the car on the busy road and started backing into oncoming traffic to get off.

“Honestly, I thought there was going to be another accident. What a eejit.”

Derek said there are no clear road signs.

He added: “We are completely down. My engine has been idle for hours. It doesn’t look like we’re going anywhere anytime soon.

There is a traffic backup on the M8 after the accident

A Scottish police spokesman said: “There are currently officers present on the M8 near Junction 5 in Shotts after a traffic incident.

“Police were called to the scene at 4.05 am on Friday, October 2.

“Currently, the road is closed in both directions between Junction 4 and Junction 5.

“Emergency services remain in place and drivers are asked to avoid the area, when possible.”
