BARCELONA will require Manchester United to pay the entirety of Ousmane Dembélé’s huge salary if he leaves it on loan.
The £ 215,000-a-week French forward has emerged as a possible alternative to key target Jadon Sancho.
United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer needs to close things quickly with the transfer window closing on Monday.
Barça are looking to raise funds after being hit hard by the coronavirus and with a move for Manchester City’s Eric Garcia in their sights.
They want to get rid of Dembélé, 23, in a permanent deal, but United are reluctant.
However, Barça may be willing to let him move on loan, provided a club agrees to pay his salary in full.
That could still prove to be a sticking point, as United’s search for a new attacker will likely go to the end.
Solskjaer could have more money at his disposal with pending moves to Italy for both Chris Smalling and Andreas Pereira this weekend.
The talks with Barça about Dembélé seemed to be going well at the beginning of the week.
The former Rennes star had been injured last season by two hamstring injuries.
And he last started a game 11 months ago.
Dembele was also in Ronald Koeman’s bad books on Monday when he was 15 minutes late for practice.
Meanwhile, United’s hopes of landing Borussia Dortmund’s England striker Sancho, 20, are fading.
There have been few positive signs since Old Trafford bosses submitted an offer a few months ago for £ 70 million upfront which rose to £ 100 million.
Instead, German giants Dortmund have remained steadfast in their desire for a more comprehensive one-time payment.
