Model Chrissy Teigen, wife of singer John Legend, revealed she had a miscarriage in a moving statement on social media.

“We are shocked and in the kind of deep pain you only hear about, the kind of pain we have never felt before,” he wrote on Instagram.

Her post was accompanied by a black and white photo of her crying sitting on her hospital bed.

Legend and Teigen married in 2013 and have two children, Luna and Miles.

In his post, Teigen revealed that the Los Angeles-based couple had planned to name the baby Jack.

“We never decide the names of our babies until the last possible moment after they are born, just before we leave the hospital,” he wrote.

“But we, for some reason, had started calling this little one in my belly Jack.

“Jack worked so hard to be a part of our little family, and he will be forever,” he continued.

“I am very sorry that the first moments of your life were met with so many complications, that we could not give you the home you needed to survive. We will always love you.”

Teigen, who is also a TV presenter, was taken to the hospital due to excessive bleeding during her pregnancy and assured fans that she and the baby were healthy.

In his last post, however, he revealed that “we were never able to stop the bleeding and give our baby the fluids he needed.”

Teigen thanked his fans for their “positive energy, thoughts, and prayers” and expressed his gratitude for the “amazing” life he enjoyed with his family.

“But every day cannot be full of sun,” he continued. “On this darkest day, we will cry, we will cry. But we will hug and love stronger and we will get through it.”

Legend, 41, is a multi-Grammy award-winning artist whose 2013 song All of Me, a song he dedicated to his wife, spent 92 weeks on the UK singles chart.

His parallel careers in film, music and television have made him an EGOT, one of only 16 people to have won a competitive Emmy, Grammy, Oscar and Tony Award.
