Manchester United topped Brighton and Hove Albion with a simple 3-0 win at Amex on Wednesday night. Here’s how the players rated:
Dean henderson
Solid first half save by Jahanbakhsh and even better second half save to deny Trossard. Doing what you have to do. 7
Diogo Dalot
Solid enough. He was given room to enter when Mata entered but had few options when in possession as a result. 6
Victor lindelof
He lost possession early in both halves and made a mistake that nearly let Brighton in during the second half. 5
Eric Bailly
He made an excellent sliding block early in the second half and was positionally excellent all night. He has to be pushing Lindelof to start alongside Maguire in the league. 8
Brandon williams
He advanced well and selected some smart passes, but often sought to cut off his right foot. No problems on the defensive. 6
Scott McTominay
He took his goal well and was a vocal presence in midfield, shouting orders at all times. 7
Fred
United’s best midfielder and he proved it again when Brighton tried to play from behind. 6
Donny van de Beek
He wasn’t heavily involved until he created Mata’s second goal with a graceful move. That showed how dangerous it can be in the outpost. 7
Juan Mata |
An outstanding performance. He created the first goal and scored the second, although he also participated in the preparation three or four times. 8
Daniel James
He left the game after a brilliant start. He played in his favorite position on the left, but didn’t find it easy. 5
Odion ighalo
He lost his balance when presented with a good opportunity in the first half and did not offer much presence in attack. 5
Subs
Paul pogba
He put in a header when he could have scored, but added some balance in midfield when United were under pressure. Fortunately he found the net with a deflected free kick that went wide. 7
Marcus rashford
He stretched the game on a center-forward pitch that immediately gave United more room to play. 6
Jesse lingard
Short cameo, did not have much time to influence proceedings. 6
Manager
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer
I made changes one more time but wasn’t afraid to use a strong bench to go and kill the game. 7
