Craig, 55, reportedly said while promoting his autobiography at the time: ‘What happened is that she came to the audition and she literally had the thing open to her navel. I’m not kidding.
‘Her boobs were like BaZooKa things hanging out. It wasn’t very, erm, strictly. So they went in and sewed all that. Then they had to push them down. . . and they are false. ‘
Two years later, Shirley spoke of her surprise in her autobiography, Behind The Sequins.

In an excerpt obtained by The Mirror, the retired dancer said: ‘It was horrible and very, very painful. It brought up a lot of things from my past that I thought I had dealt with. ”
She stated: ‘Once again, I was propelled back to my most difficult days with [ex-husband] Corky, when he made comments about my appearance: my crooked teeth, my nose, my ass that was too big.
All those insults flew back when I read what Craig had said, apparently in jest. I told him exactly how I felt.
Shirley said that she told Craig that she felt a sense of betrayal, as she felt that he should ‘feel like a protector to me and I should feel like a protector for you’.
The Strictly star added that Craig gave her a humiliating apology and sent her flowers like an olive branch.
