Shocking footage shows the moment a driver killed a man after crashing into his car at 143 mph.

Ashraf Salem drove through a tunnel that had a speed limit of 40 mph and crashed into the back of Osama Sayam’s car in September 2018.

Sayam, 29, known as ‘Ozzy’ to friends and family, was killed at the scene when the wreckage of his car was scattered for more than 100 yards.

Judge Richard Marks QC attacked Salem, describing the case as “by far the fastest speed” he had faced in court, reports the Daily Record.

It has since emerged that as a child, the 24-year-old was involved in an accident that killed his father.

Ashraf Salem smashed his new Range Rover into the back of Osama Sayam’s Audi A2 and left it to die at the scene

Police released CCTV footage of the fatal accident on the A12 in Leytonstone, East London.

The movie shows Salem losing control of his blue 4×4 as he enters the Green Man’s tunnel.

He was described in court as using the eastbound carriageway as a “race track.”

Two of its passengers were injured in the collision and have yet to make a full recovery.

Salem, of Leyton, London, admitted to causing death by dangerous driving and two counts of causing serious injury by dangerous driving.

He was jailed for eight years and three months and was banned from driving for six years at the Old Bailey last Friday.

Judge Richard Marks QC said: “About a mile prior to the collision, you started a vehicle at a speed greater than 100 mph.

“Five seconds before the collision you were going astonishingly at 143 mph.

Salem drove through the tunnel at 143 mph. The highway had a speed limit of 40 mph.

“That is by far the fastest speed I have encountered in a dangerous driving death case.”

In a statement, Sayam’s sister Izzy said: “Our beloved Ozzy was a loving son, brother, uncle and friend who always smiled and put the needs of others before his own.

“Although he is no longer with us in person, he has left us beautiful eternal memories and will be forever in our thoughts and in our hearts.”

Detective Sergeant Edward Coleman said: “This is a heartbreaking story, where a young man lost his life due to the completely reckless and selfish actions of another road user.

Salem was jailed for eight years and three months and banned from driving for six years.

“The speed at which Salem was traveling was downright terrifying and he should be ashamed of himself.

“There can be no doubt that Salem’s speed killed Mr. Sayam. I can only hope this case serves as a stern warning to other road users that speed is deadly.”

Siwan Hayward, Director of Compliance and Enforcement for Transport for London, added: “Our roads are not a racetrack and Salem’s utterly unacceptable behavior shows the devastating consequences of dangerous driving.

“Our thoughts are with Mr. Sayam’s family and we urge all who use our roads to obey the speed limit and drive carefully; it could be the difference between life and death. “
