A woman supposedly missing for two years has been found floating in the sea.
Angélica Gaitán, 46, was unconscious and suffering from hypothermia when she was pulled out of the water by fishermen off the coast of Colombia.
Rolando Visbal saw Ms. Gaitán floating about 1.9 kilometers from the city of Puerto Colombia around 6 am on Saturday.
Her first words after being rescued were reportedly: “I was born again, God did not want me to die.”
The dramatic video of the rescue shows Mr. Visbal and a friend taking Ms. Gaitan on board and giving her water.
He appears to be unresponsive and was reportedly hypothermic.
They initially mistook her for a log before she raised her hands to say hello. She is believed to have been at sea for eight hours before being rescued.
Ms. Gaitán was taken to the hospital where she was reunited with her family.
Visbal told local radio that he hardly ever goes fishing after problems with his boat’s engine caused delays on a previous trip.
Speaking of the rescue, he told Caracol Radio: “Gustavo warned me to be careful with the trunk and I began to turn about 15 degrees to the right, then to my surprise the trunk moved. I thought it was something supernatural.”
He said that Ms. Gaitan said nothing when they put her on the boat.
He added, “So it turns out I didn’t catch any fish that day either, but I did catch a life. I think that was God’s purpose.”
It is unclear how the woman managed to get through the past two years.
Ms. Gaitán told another local radio, RCN, that she had fled an abusive relationship, although this has been questioned by the family.
Gaitán’s daughter, Alejandra Castiblanco, told local media that she had not seen her mother for two years and did not know her location.
She and her sister are now raising money to take Ms. Gaitán to Bogotá, where they live, more than 1,500 miles from Colombia, so they can care for her.
