Gary Neville says Manchester United’s transfers have been “appalling” this summer and has urged his former club to make three transfers to upgrade Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s squad before the deadline.

Donny van de Beek is the only deal United have made this summer, with a long attempt to bring Jadon Sancho to Old Trafford that apparently ended in disappointment.

Dayot Upamecano and Alex Telles are the most closely linked centrals and left wingers, and it is believed that these two positions need to be strengthened.

With Chelsea, Liverpool and Manchester City spending heavily to improve their teams, United risks falling behind on the pitch by failing to act.

And Neville has called on United’s board of directors with just five days left until the transfer window closes, mentioning the three positions United must strengthen.

Writing on his official Twitter account, Neville said: “It’s shocking that in this market, which is probably the easiest in PL’s history to transfer, United hasn’t done more yet.

“They must get Ole a center back, left back and forward before the deadline! The others are getting things out of line, why not United! “

Neville later rejected a response that suggested “panic buying” at the end of a transfer window was not the answer to his problems.

“They have needed these positions to be filled for 12 months, they had a national blockade to regroup and reestablish themselves, and enough time to maneuver the agreements to a conclusion.”
