José Mourinho expects Tottenham forward Heung-Min Son to return from his hamstring injury after the next international break.
Son was substituted at halftime during Tottenham’s 1-1 draw in the Premier League with Newcastle on Sunday, after which the Spurs head coach said the South Korean forward would be “out for a while”.
The Spurs face a congested schedule to start the 2020/21 season, with the campaign condensed due to delays caused by the coronavirus pandemic.
A much-changed Tottenham beat Chelsea on penalties in the Carabao Cup fourth round on Tuesday, and Mourinho gave an update on Son’s condition afterward, during which he sought to warn international managers about his other team members.
“I hope to have him back after the international period and you give me the opportunity to talk about that,” Mourinho said.
“I hope the national team coaches have their data and realize how many minutes the Tottenham players have played this week and I hope they care about the players and protect them because the Tottenham players this week have an incredible amount of minutes and they work and it’s very, very dangerous. “
Spurs’ victory over Chelsea was the second of four games in eight days for Mourinho’s team, with a Europa League qualifying match against Maccabi Haifa on Thursday, before a trip to Old Trafford to face Manchester. United on Sunday.
If Tottenham’s Carabao Cup third round tie against Leyton Orient had not been canceled last Tuesday, this would have been a second week in a row with the same pattern of matches.
Spurs are also currently without Gareth Bale, who is recovering from a knee injury and returned to the Premier League after a seven-year stint with Real Madrid.
Mourinho will look forward to having Son and Bale available when Tottenham return to Premier League action after the international break against West Ham on the weekend of October 17-18.
