Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta says he has left Gabriel Magalhaes for David Luiz because the latter “gives us something different.”
The Gunners face Liverpool at Anfield on Monday night, and Arteta has made some changes to the team that beat West Ham last time in the Premier League.
Kieran Tierney is coming back from injury and regaining his position on the left back, but the biggest surprise is that Luiz was named in the starting XI instead of new signing Gabriel.
The Brazilian, who joined Arsenal from Lille this summer, has appeared in the Gunners’ first two games this season.
He has been strong in both, and was even on the scoreboard in the win over Fulham on the first day of the season at Craven Cottage.
Explaining why he is on the bench for the trip to Liverpool, Arteta said: “He has done very well and is adjusting very well, he has played some games with us.”

“David has a lot of experience, he has also played here a few times and gives us something different.”
Luiz’s career at Arsenal seemed to have ended last season after a particularly disastrous performance against Manchester City.
But the Brazilian signed a new one-year contract in June, while Pablo Mari and Cedric Soares made their assignments permanent.
“I am very happy to have these players in our squad in the future,” said Arsenal manager Edu.
“They have been part of the long-term technical plan [manager] Mikel [Arteta] and I have developed. They bring the right balance to our staff.
“David is a really important player for us. He has played most of our games this season and has been important to the team.
“His pass, his communication with the team on and off the field, helps everyone.”
