Donald Trump has not paid income taxes in 10 of the last 15 years, according to a New York Times report.

Citing data from tax returns, the newspaper also claimed that The american president he paid just $ 750 (£ 590) in federal income taxes in 2016, the year he was elected, and the same figure again in his first year in office.

The claims come just weeks before a divisive election, with early voting already underway.

When asked about the report in his daily briefing, Trump said: “It is totally false news, fabricated, false.

“I actually paid taxes.”

Trump insisted that his tax details would be released when the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) completes its audit.

“They have been under audit for some time,” Trump added. “The IRS treats me very badly.”

A lawyer for the Trump Organization told the newspaper that “most, if not all, of the facts appear to be inaccurate.”

In a statement, he said the president “has paid tens of millions of dollars in personal taxes to the federal government, including the payment of millions in personal taxes since he announced his candidacy in 2015.”
