An angry father on the road with a “thunderous face” slammed the car window of an off-duty police officer six times in a violent outburst.

Dean Kershaw, 29, stormed out of his car and confronted the police officer after the officer “struck,” causing his young son to fall out of his baby seat and suffer a black eye.

The family was at Holland Place in Edge Hill on March 19 after Kershaw, his partner, their three-year-old son and his elderly mother had been to CostCo.

The Liverpool Magistrates Court heard yesterday (23 September) that off-duty officer Jonathan Kilpatrick pulled up in front of the defendant, after which Kershaw showed him his headlights.

Michael O’Kane, the prosecutor, told the court that after Kilpatrick pulled over in front of the Jaguar Land Rover employee two more times and “continued to slow down,” the defendant turned his headlights back on “by honking his horn several times. “.

Mr. O’Kane said: “Next up, the defendant approached the driver’s side door pulling on the door handle while yelling ‘Get out of the fucking car now there’s a fucking kid in the car.’

“His face was like thunder, he was bright red, his eyes were wild and he kept screaming.”

Kilpatrick would have said, “I thought I was going to pull the handle.”

Kershaw, of Waterworth Drive, Edge Hill, struck the driver’s side window six times forcing the window to flex, although it did not break.

Kilpatrick said: “I really feared for his safety. The defendant was behaving extremely violently.”

When prevented from driving, Mr. Kilpatrick got out of the car, at which point Kershaw was filming him and continued to swear.

When the officer called 999, Kershaw said, “Go ahead, you fucking weed, call the police.”

Kilpatrick claimed that the defendant kicked the car and that his elderly mother joined in, however this was disputed by Kershaw.

On leaving he said “goodbye” in a “childish” manner accompanied by a wave of his hand.

The prosecution dropped a criminal mischief charge of which Kershaw pleaded not guilty as it was not considered in the public interest to pursue him.

Kershaw was charged with threatening conduct, which he admitted.

Peter White, in defense, said: “He did cooperate with the voluntary interview process for this matter, made relevant admissions and fully accepted his behavior throughout the interview.”

Mr. White explained that Kershaw was “interrupted” three times by the off-duty police officer who “attacked” the third time.

In turn, Kershaw had to “hit,” which saw her three-year-old “slip out of her baby seat and suffer a black eye.”

Mr. White explained that Kershaw “lost his temper” and “accepts what he has done.”

The court heard that Kershaw was supported by his partner of five years who is currently five months pregnant.

Kershaw normally works at Jaguar Land Rover, however he suffers from mental health problems and does not work.

White said: “This is an isolated incident. It has not been and will not be repeated.”

Presiding Magistrate Mr. Ashworth said: “We have listened to this carefully. It is a nasty offense. You are quite a big guy, quite intimidating.

“I wouldn’t want to be sitting in a car with you hitting the windshield.

“We have taken into account your previous good character.

“We hope not to see you again.”

Kershaw was fined £ 500 and ordered to pay compensation of £ 125.
