An assistant principal has been killed by cows while walking.

Dave Clark was in a field off Hurgill Road in Richmond, North Yorkshire, when it happened Monday night.

In a tribute, Principal Jenna Potter said that Mr. Clark was the “heart and soul” of Richmond School. “Our thoughts are with Dave’s wife, her children and the family in general at this difficult time.”

North Yorkshire Police said officers were working to establish the circumstances of his death.

The principal said, “He was a huge character, a brilliant school leader, and just a charming man who enriched the lives of everyone he came in contact with, just being himself and doing what he did every day.

He said that Mr. Clark joined the high school in 1997 and was promoted to assistant principal in 2003. He said that his colleagues and students held him in high regard and expected very high standards from each student.

“All of this was done by Dave with a smile and a level of kindness and care that is rarely seen,” he added.

A North Yorkshire police spokesman said the force had been called in by a report of a man in his 50s who was injured by cows in a field north of Richmond.

“He was treated by paramedics, but unfortunately he was pronounced dead at the scene.”

The Health and Safety Executive has been informed, added the force.
