Police officers are at the center of a Covid-19 outbreak in Berkshire, it was confirmed today.
Thames Valley Police said several officers in West Berkshire tested positive for the virus in recent days.
West Berkshire Council, which leads local outbreak control plans in the area, said the officers were based in Newbury.
The police officers involved are now isolating themselves.

Thames Valley Police Commander Gold’s response to Coronavirus Deputy Police Chief Christian Bunt said: “Following these positive tests at the West Berkshire Local Police Area, officers are taking precautions and self-isolating after who were confirmed to have tested positive for coronavirus.
“Early steps were taken to ensure that these officers were quickly isolated in order to minimize the spread of the virus.”
“This has no impact on the service we provide to the public.
“Plans remain to contain and manage this situation and we continue to work in partnership with Public Health England and the West Berkshire Council.”

The West Berkshire City Council said in a statement that “several other people” with whom officers have been in close contact are also isolating themselves.
He said he was working with Public Health England and Thames Valley Police to control the outbreak and stop the spread of the virus.
The council said police had “acted quickly to take the necessary precautions and work with NHS Test and Trace and its partners to inform anyone who had been in close contact to begin isolating themselves.”
Matt Pearce, Head of Public Health for the West Berkshire Council, said: “Nationwide there has been an increase in Covid-19 cases, and we are likely to see more local cases and outbreaks in the coming months.
“We will continue to work with our partners to ensure that necessary steps are taken to reduce the spread of the virus.”
