‘I thought City would lose tonight … but it was a real statement’ – Jamie Carragher praises Pep Guardiola’s men as they begin their bid to reclaim the Premier League with a resounding win over Wolves
Jamie Carragher admitted that he was surprised by Manchester City’s level of performance after their win against Wolves on Monday night.
Goals from Kevin De Bruyne, Phil Foden and Gabriel Jesus secured a 3-1 win against a team that beat them twice last season.
It means Pep Guardiola’s side, who started the Premier League season late due to their European exploits last season, are on track with three points and former Liverpool defender Carragher was impressed.

“ I thought City would lose tonight just because it was the first game, ” Carragher said. Sky sports.
“United were slow in the first game, Liverpool and Spurs too. But the way they came out with energy in the first half was really kind of a statement, but I thought City were outstanding in the first half.
“ How they dealt with the game at 2-1 – 78 minutes later, I would have thought there would be a couple of chances for the Wolves, but they really only got one chance.
Carragher also said he would only put Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo in a clear box ahead of De Bruyne, who shone again at Molineux.
