Tottenham manager José Mourinho insists he is ready to further strengthen his squad, and appears to have a new striker in his sights.

Spurs started the season with a 5-2 demolition of Southampton – Heung-min Son scores four times at St Mary’s.

The victory came less than a day after the Spurs announced the double signing of Gareth Bale and Sergio Reguilon. Despite the double transfer push, the Spurs are still looking for more with a forward on the roster.

To that end, Tottenham has been strongly linked with Torino’s Andrea Belotti after supposedly seeing a rejected opening offer.

Mourinho admits he is happy with his business so far, but insists there is more to come for the Spurs.

“Gareth when he’s fit is one of the best players in Europe,” he said. “Sergio was incredible last season. If you ask me if I’m happy to have these players, yes I am.

When asked if he would like more additions, he added: “Yes. For a season like this we need a good squad and we need two players for each position ”, suggesting that there could be another striker on the way.

One man who seems likely to break through is Dele Alli. The midfielder was left out of the call for Sunday’s victory; a decision that seemed to surprise the Tottenham squad.

The midfielder has emerged ever since as a possible target for PSG and talks on a measure are said to be underway.

Mourinho was in no mood to discuss Dele’s possible departure, but offered an explanation for leaving him out.

“I am not responsible for the market. I don’t know how to answer your question in relation to that, ”he said.

“All I can say is that I left eight players behind. They stayed and trained this morning because they are a big group and Dele is among these players.

“I want a balanced squad, that’s what I want.”

“Too many players, so I start with Son [Heung-min], Luke [Moura], with Harry [Kane] and on the bench I still have Moussa Sissoko and [Erik] Lick it and [Steven] Bergwijn.

“We have too many players for some positions and some of them are paying the price for this.”

Mourinho explains the substitution of Ndombele

Ndombele, who struggled to stay in shape last season in his debut season with the Spurs, received the endorsement of Mourinho last week.

James Ward-Prowse, Tanguy Ndombele

The Portuguese manager He assured that he could see the French midfielder enjoying an “evolution”, although he was withdrawn at halftime against the Saints.

Mourinho said: “Football is not just about action. There were three or four players with a yellow card, Tanguy for us, [Oriel] Romeo and two other players with yellow cards.

“I felt that in the second half the game would break down and it would be a risk for Tanguy. It was a risk for them too, in fact Romeu was close to getting a second yellow card.

“I switched to Tanguy because I knew that Gio would give us a little more because he is in better condition than Tanguy.”

Spurs they will face Leyton Orient in the Carabao Cup on Tuesday in their next match.
