The M62 was closed in both directions today to allow an air ambulance to land after a police incident.
The carriageway closed in both directions between Junction 11 for Birchwood Way (Birchwood) and Junction 10 for Croft Interchange just before noon.
The incident was a “serious collision” involving two cars, police said. Two men suffered minor injuries and were taken to hospital as a precautionary measure.
The highway reopened completely at 1:00 p.m.
North West Motorway police tweeted about the incident around 11:45 p.m.
The tweet read: “RTC J11-10 M62 WB lanes are blocked.”
They then tweeted an update that read: “RTC J11-10 M62 Air Ambulance will assist to get both roads closed.
Photos from traffic cameras show several emergency service vehicles at the scene.
Police cars and fire trucks attended.
Traffic website Inrix has posted about the incident, saying: “All traffic has temporarily stopped and traffic is stopped due to an accident on the M62 westbound between J11 A574 Birchwood Way (Birchwood) and M62 J10 / A574 (Croft Interchange) Croft Interchange.
“All traffic temporarily stops around 11:45 am.”
