WE HAVE another excellent set of Premier League matches to try out this week after the top flight returned in style.
The new Chelsea did the business in Brighton on Monday Night Football, Liverpool were pushed all the way by Leeds and Arsenal were ruthless in crushing the newly promoted Fulham.
Chelsea vs Liverpool, Sunday 16:30 (Sky Sports)
How about this for a Sunday gift?
The new Chelsea host the champions in the first major heavyweight fight of the new season.
And this one really has the potential to be a mugger.
Liverpool were all over the place in the back against Leeds last weekend, conceding three goals despite the West Yorkshire side managing just three shots on target.
Frank Lampard will have studied that game and will hope that his expensive front line can do similar damage.
It wasn’t as comfortable for the Blues in Brighton as the scoreboard suggested, but Lampard will take every hard-fought win no matter how it comes about.
New kid Kai Havertz had a baptism of fire and didn’t seem up to the task, at one point he threw a cross ball straight into the elegant seats without any pressure.
And there are questions about Timo Werner’s physical form after taking a hit.
In our preview last week, we said that this Chelsea experiment will take time, and as a result we go through 10/21 with a home win.
That’s a huge price tag and some will be tempted, but we’d rather play this safe and backward goal.
We went for over 3.5 goals in the Leeds match and that had won before 35 minutes, with the price of lightning striking twice, a very tempting 6/4.
The history books may play a role in this a bit, but only one H2H among the clubs here at the Bridge has featured four or more goals since 2015.
However, at that price, and with these players on display, we say go for it.
Three of Liverpool’s five away games in the post-blocking schedule saw a victory of more than 3.5 goals, while nine of Chelsea’s 19 home games saw a frenzied goal.
With both sides looking for the bragging right at the start of the season, it definitely won’t be boring.
Especially with the Chelsea goalkeeper situation still up in the air.
If Kepa starts, backs the Blues to concede, it’s that simple.
The Spaniard has let in nine goals of the last 13 shots on goal he has faced in the Premier League. Pretty grim stuff.
Klopp will have his men shoot on sight and we don’t see how the home team can get away with a clean sheet, so head back to Chelsea to concede two or more against the champions.
Werner’s injury situation is something to watch, but the German is expected to take part in Sunday’s showdown.
He showed flashes of brilliance in Brighton’s victory, but didn’t get a chance to show his lethal end.
If Werner starts he backs him up to score 6/4 at any time, which is a monster price.
And for those of you feeling brave, 4/1 on the former RB Leipzig player to score the first goal is also tempting.
