Finally we have some photos of the PS5 in nature sitting sideways and good pain, is he stocky?
Although the PS5 stats were revealed earlier this week in the PS5 Showcase, those measurements weren’t the PS5’s “largest projections” and did not account for the optional base. Now, courtesy of a PDF prepared by Taiwan National Communications Commission (NCC) (thank you, The edge), we can finally see what the console looks like when placed horizontally without the glossy PR photography. And it’s … well, it’s pretty big.
These new images show that the console, although technically it can be placed on its side, does not look as imposing in this alternative position. Take a look for yourself:
As Sam summed up for us yesterday, since the PS5’s design was first revealed, we had a feeling that the dimensions of the PS5 would be considerable at 390mm high x 260mm deep x 104mm wide (the digital edition comes in 390mm x 92mm x 260mm.
“That is by far the biggest PlayStation console of all time, and it can cause some problems for people trying to fit it into existing TV units,” added Sam.
And in case you were wondering, yes, the PS5 edition with the disc drive is larger than the slimmer Xbox Series X at 301mm high x 151mm wide x 151mm.
In related news, Sony has apologized after thousands of hopeful PS5 owners failed to secure a pre-order earlier this week, promising to release more consoles for pre-order “in the coming days.”
In a message on its social media channels, the company acknowledged that the pre-order system “could have been much more fluid,” adding that even more consoles “will be available until the end of the year.”
“Let’s be honest – PS5 pre-orders could have been a lot easier. We really apologize for that,” Sony said in a tweet posted on the official Twitter channel today. “Over the next few days, we will release more PS5 consoles for pre-order; retailers will share more details.”
Don’t forget, GamesRadar + is tracking PS5 pre-orders to keep checking the latest information.
