In Scotland, another 350 new cases of coronavirus have been reported, the highest daily increase since May.
According to figures from the Scottish government, three other people who tested positive for the virus have died.
Sixty-four people were hospitalized Friday, nine in intensive care.
The figures bring the cumulative number of confirmed Covid-19 deaths in Scotland to 2,505 since the outbreak began.
However, according to monthly data from Scotland’s national registries, there have been 4,236 deaths in which the virus is mentioned on a death certificate.
Greater Glasgow and Clyde had 116 new cases, the largest increase among Scottish health boards.

The latest figures were released after the prime minister warned that stricter restrictions could be issued to combat the surge in cases.
Daily covid cases have risen steadily throughout September, yet the 350 new cases show a marked jump compared to 203 on Friday.
Nicola Sturgeon said “tighter restrictions” might be needed to “interrupt” the spread of the virus, while avoiding a large-scale lockdown.

Linda Bauld, a professor of public health at the University of Edinburgh, told BBC Scotland: “The priority for the Scottish government and most of the people is to keep schools open, to keep education going.
“If we don’t want many more people to enter the hospital, we will have to stop other parts of the economy.”
‘Almost inevitable’
He added: “The closures will be a last resort, the more restrictive closures, and things like curfews can be an intermediate step, but I think it is almost inevitable.
“The other thing I would anticipate in terms of the current restrictions on gathering at each other’s houses is that we can see travel restrictions applied within the country, because obviously we don’t want an area with higher cases to affect a neighboring area.”
Restrictions on people visiting other homes were reintroduced in the city of Glasgow, West Dunbartonshire and East Renfrewshire on September 2 after concerns about the number of cases.
Earlier this week, the Scottish government halted the next set of changes to the lockdown rules and tightened other measures.
