Manchester United will hope to pick up where they left off when their new Premier League campaign against Crystal Palace begins on Saturday, live on talkSPORT.

While most top-level teams started the 2020/21 season last weekend, United and Man City were given an additional week off due to their exploits in Europe.

United’s last competitive game saw them exiting the Europa League against Sevilla in the semi-finals, though that was a rare problem for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s men after the lockout.

Their excellent domestic form, led by the appearance of Bruno Fernandes and Mason Greenwood, saw them finish the last season in third position.

Had they started the season along the same lines, Solskjaer’s men could have given Liverpool a run for their money.

The so far unsuccessful pursuit of Jadon Sancho has dominated the headlines this summer, although there have been some newcomers to Old Trafford.

Man United won the race for Ajax’s Donny van de Beek, while goalkeeper Dean Henderson will feel like a new signing following his return from a two-year stint at Sheffield United.

Man United team news

Donny van de Beek is in line to make his Manchester United debut in his first Premier League game of the season against Crystal Palace.

The Dutch international, the only summer signing to date, will play a role on Saturday night, when coach Ole Gunnar Solskjaer says Paul Pogba (coronavirus) and Luke Shaw (ankle) will be available.

Phil Jones (knee), Axel Tuanzebe (foot) and Sergio Romero (extended vacation) are unavailable for Solskjaer, who declined to confirm whether Henderson or David De Gea would start in goal.

Crystal Palace team news

Eagles boss Roy Hodgson is keen to keep faith in the team that earned an opening day win over Southampton.

Palace made 10 changes to the Carabao Cup midweek clash at Bournemouth, with only Jeffrey Schlupp starting from the weekend’s win as they looked to avoid further injury.

Palace is still without Nathan Ferguson (knee), Gary Cahill, James Tomkins (both hamstring) and Patrick Van Aanholt (shoulder), but Mamadou Sakho, Jairo Riedewald, Christian Benteke and Connor Wickham are back in shape, though not are considered fit.
