The wait for Gareth Bale’s return to Tottenham to be confirmed continued from Friday to Saturday.
The Wales international was photographed arriving at Tottenham’s training ground on Friday afternoon after flying to London to seal a one-season loan return to the club he left in 2013.
But Spurs fans were still waiting for confirmation of the signing.
The club has been in discussions for the past few days to sign the 31-year-old, seven years after he left, and it appears that all financial hurdles have been overcome.
Madrid is understood to pay a large chunk of Bale’s hefty salary.
Tottenham manager José Mourinho has refused to answer questions about the move, while his club is also on the verge of signing Bale’s Madrid teammate Sergio Reguilón on a permanent transfer.
Left-back Reguilon, who was interesting to Manchester United, is poised to make a £ 27.5 million move on a five-year contract after the Spurs quickly concluded negotiations for his services.
Madrid is believed to have inserted a buyback clause into the deal.
But it’s Bale’s return that will touch the heartstrings of Spurs fans after a highly successful first season at White Hart Lane.
The Cardiff-born player traded the north London club for the Spanish capital for a then-world-record fee in 2013, winning four Champions League titles during a medal-laden period at the Bernabéu.
But Bale has found himself sidelined with coach Zinedine Zidane and has spent the last two years struggling to get into the side.
His return to Tottenham is also timely for Mourinho after a dismal start to the campaign against Everton on Sunday, when they looked uncreative in a slow 1-0 defeat.
They also needed two goals in the final 10 minutes to beat Bulgarian side Lokomotiv Plovdiv in a Europa League tie, having lost a goal with 19 minutes remaining.
