GARETH BALE’s return to Tottenham could be completed over the weekend after he reportedly passed a medical examination.

Spurs president Daniel Levy is as desperate as coach José Mourinho to secure a £ 20 million loan for the Real Madrid forward.

Now, the Spanish media EFE affirms that the 31-year-old player has the green light to move after health checks at the Real Valdebebas training ground.

SunSport exclusively revealed Tottenham’s frenzied efforts to put together a package for the Wales superstar, who came out to the Bernabéu in 2013 for a world record £ 86 million.

The Real is keen to take Bale out of the payroll but is willing to continue paying up to 50 per cent of his staggering £ 650,000 weekly salary.

Bale, whose contract with the Bernabéu expires in the summer of 2022, won four Champions League titles with the champions of Spain, but has played just 100 minutes since soccer resumed in June.

It seems certain that Spurs will beat Manchester United in the search for Bale.

Old Trafford manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is believed to have paid attention to the former Southampton player after losing patience in his search for Borussia Dortmund’s England manager Jadon Sancho.

But Bale’s agent, Jonathan Barnett, confirmed Bale’s preference for his old club.

Barnett said: “Gareth still loves the Spurs. We are talking. It’s where you want to be. “

And he also told Sky Sports: “There is a long way to go on some issues, but Gareth is certainly closer to leaving Madrid than at any other time in the last seven years.

“The deal is complicated, but there is reason to believe that it is close and things could move very quickly if the discussions continue to go well.”

Even if they qualify for the weekend and Bale returns to the UK, he would have to go into quarantine for 14 days under government rules to control Covid-19.

That would leave him unable to bond with José Mourinho’s team until October 2, with Spurs facing a trip to Manchester United the next day.

Mourinho hinted that Bale could be the missing piece of the puzzle at Tottenham, as he turned cryptic at the prospect of the Welshman’s return.

He said: “A team is a puzzle and when a new signing completes the puzzle it is a great feeling for the team.”

Asked specifically about Bale, he said: “Gareth Bale is a Real Madrid player and I don’t comment on players from other clubs.”

The Spurs manager did reveal that he tried to sign Bale when he was in charge of Real Madrid, adding: “It was not possible in my time there and the season after I left they brought Bale to the club.”
