Coronavirus: North East Faces Tighter Lockdown Restrictions Since Friday | UK News

Large parts of the Northeast are subject to stricter lockdown restrictions to be announced tomorrow, Sky News understands.

Fresh coronavirus The restrictions are expected to go into effect on Friday.

A deputy present at the meeting told Sky News that the affected areas are likely to be Newcastle, Northumberland, North Tyneside, South Tyneside, Gateshead, Durham County and Sunderland.

It comes after Health Minister Nadine Dorries met with 22 MPs from North East England today.

According to Chronicle Live, the measures will include a 10 p.m. curfew at pubs, restaurants and other licensed venues, as well as prohibiting people from socializing with people outside of their home.

Other restrictions, to be announced but not yet confirmed, include people who are told not to travel on vacation with other households and sports fans who do not attend games.

The document adds that only essential visitors will be able to visit nursing homes and, with the exception of essential travel, the use of public transport and carpooling will be discouraged at peak times.

Newcastle City Council Leader Nick Forbes tweeted: “Some additional temporary restrictions are being planned to prevent another total closure.”

In response to another Twitter user, Forbes added: “We are awaiting confirmation from the Government on the final version of the regulations; I await an announcement from the Secretary of Health at 11:00 am.”

Durham North Labor MP Kevan Jones told Sky News: “It adds to the ridiculous way the government has handled this. The problem in the Northeast needs to be addressed as the numbers rise, but the evidence in the Northeast is a disaster”.

The move comes as the UK recorded its highest number of daily coronavirus infections since May.
