Today seven years ago, two players wore a Liverpool jersey for the first time.
One was Mamadou Sakho, a kettle footballer who, for a time at least, became a cult hero at the Kop before a misguided drug ban and Jurgen Klopp ended a roller coaster career at Anfield.
The other was a Europa League winner who would later go on to lift the Premier League, the FA Cup, play in two World Cups, appear in another European final and star in Serie A.
However, hardly anyone remembers his time at Anfield.
It was Victor Moses who joined Sakho to make his debut at Swansea City in September 2013, having agreed earlier this month to a season-long loan change from Chelsea, where he had been an unused substitute in the final victory of the Europa League over Benfica. a few months before.
Moses got off to an ideal start, scoring after just 36 minutes to help Brendan Rodgers’ team claim a 2-2 draw.
The then 22-year-old Nigerian international started the next five games before being an unused substitute in the home win over West Bromwich Albion.
Life wouldn’t be much better for Moses, who made just three more starts, the only one in the Premier League being a 3-1 loss at Hull City, and he scored just one more goal, scoring in the 2-0 win in the FA Cup at Bournemouth in January 2014.
Instead, he was limited to working on the bench with 13 backup appearances, none of which lasted more than 22 minutes.

Moses played for less than 70 combined minutes during the second half of the Premier League season as Liverpool chased the title, although his brief outing in a 3-2 win over Manchester City with five games left was pivotal.
With the Reds leading during injury time and holding on, Moses had a chance to penetrate deep into the City’s half.
Instead, a bad touch allowed the visitors to instantly return the ball to the Liverpool half, where Jordan Henderson was forced to control his own poor control, resulting in a desperate lunge against Samir Nasri and a red card.
To this day, Rodgers believes that Henderson’s three-game suspension cost Liverpool the title, as they lost to Chelsea and tied with Crystal Palace.
There was no chance Moses would be held up and, with no space at Chelsea, he spent seasons on loan at Stoke City and West Ham United.
But the arrival of Antonio Conte completely changed things. Moses was a regular on the right back when Chelsea won the Premier League, although he was sent off in the FA Cup final loss to Arsenal. The following year, he was on the team that beat Manchester United in the final.
Conte’s departure saw Moses fall out of favor at Chelsea once again and he agreed to an 18-month loan at Fenerbahce, which ended prematurely before linking up again with his former boss at Inter Milan, where he assisted five goals in 12 Serie A appearances for runners-up and was a late substitute in the final 3-2 Europa League loss to Sevilla last month.
Moses is now back at Chelsea, frozen out of the first team image and in danger of becoming a forgotten man once again.
In Liverpool, however, he will always be remembered as completely unmemorable.
