The exchange of Chelsea for Rennes goalkeeper Edouard Mendy is ‘imminent’ after the club agreed to a structured £ 25.74 million deal for the Senegalese international.

Despite claims that he is happy with Kepa after Monday’s 3-1 win against Brighton, Frank Lampard is keen to sign a replacement plug for the goalkeeper.

Kepa fell several points last season after a string of poor performances and Mendy, 28, is seen as a more confident pair of hands.

Chelsea have already made six transfers so far this summer, spending more than £ 200 million to bring in players like Kai Havertz, Hakim Ziyech, Timo Werner and Ben Chilwell.

But a goalkeeper was seen as the next priority and Channel + report that an agreement has been reached for Mendy.

Chelsea is claimed to pay an initial fee of around £ 20.2 million and £ 5.55 million in bonuses to sign the 28-year-old.

Mendy could be in his place when Chelsea take on Liverpool this weekend, but it remains to be seen if Lampard will leave Kepa.

Lampard suggested that a new goalkeeper would simply provide “competition” for Kepa, but was clearly wary of demoralizing the Spaniard, who is looking to regain his best form after two difficult years at Stamford Bridge.

When asked about the progress in the club’s search for a new goalkeeper, Lampard said: ‘Not at the moment, no. Obviously, there are a few weeks until the end of the window.

“We have a great team now, so we have to handle that and see how we move forward in terms of getting the right level of competition within the team, so there is no news on that at the moment.”

‘I am very happy with Kepa. I think shooting I’m not sure if I could have done better, but I saw a little more confidence in how he was playing.

I am happy with him. Kepa is here, he is our goalkeeper and I am happy with him. If we bring competition, it will be competition, that’s the nature of Chelsea. That goes through the entire squad [but] we’ll see. ‘
