A newborn baby died after being mutilated by a dog in Doncaster.

A 35-year-old man and a 27-year-old woman have been arrested on suspicion of gross negligence homicide.

South Yorkshire Police have confirmed that both have been released on bail pending investigations.

The 12-day-old baby suffered serious injuries after being bitten by the dog on Sunday afternoon.

Emergency services brought the newborn to Doncaster Royal Infirmary, but the force has confirmed that he later died from his injuries.

The force has confirmed that the dog has been removed from the property.

A spokesman for the force said: “Police were called to an address on Welfare Road in Woodlands, Doncaster around 3:30 pm Sunday after reports that a dog had attacked a child.”

“Upon arriving at the property, emergency services discovered that a 12-day-old baby had been bitten by a dog and had suffered serious injuries.

“The boy was taken to the hospital, but sadly he died shortly after.”
